Unlike the other three elements air is the one we cannot see but it is the most intimate and essential of the four. If my brain is deprived of oxygen for two minutes it begins to die. Each breath that I take is a gift from the air, it penetrates deep into my body and infuses my vitality. Yet I cannot see it, I can only see and feel the effects of the air moving. By tuning into the sensations of the air on my bare skin I form a better relationship with this vital element and the world that I inhabit.
Take your thumb and first finger and form them into a “C” shape and then close your eyes and very gently bring them together so they just lightly touch. Notice what goes on, its almost as though there is an electric spark. Now try the other hand and notice if there is a difference in the intensity and experience.

We inhabit the most wonderfully sensitive physical form. Those of you that regularly read these blog posts will know that nakedness is a common theme. I spend at least a third of my life naked and have done as long as I can remember because since a child I have never worn bed clothes. So each morning I emerge from my slumbers in the same state that I entered this existence. Over the last thirteen years since I began my Druid path I have found that by using the natural sensations of my bare skin not only have I connected closer and closer to the web of life but I have also connected closer to myself and my place in that wonderful matrix.

Each morning as I throw back the covers the first impression that I get is of the air temperature in the bedroom. I walk out of the door into the garden. The air temperature this morning was -3.5ºC, the air fitting perfectly to the shape of my body and impacting on my physical senses in the most intense way that that brings me into the present moment.
And what this post is really about is the element of Air, and the way it can connect you into each moment.
I understand that most people cannot or do not wish to live their lives in the way that I do but I invite you to try this. When you are next the shower or the bath just run one finger tip over your body, across your lips, around your neck, down your torso and across the palm of your hand and just focus on that sensual touch. Engage with your body and its sensations. When you are next out in the wind roll up your sleeves, maybe take off your shirt, turn and feel the way in which the wind flows around you. Even in still air just your movement can create a sensation of the air flowing around you. Engage and enjoy. This is life, this is part of what being a human is.
