Never too old!

I’m just past my 75th time around the sun, where has all this time gone? It’s not unusual to think that it’s all over and there is nothing to contribute so late in life but that is not my way.

“I like being old”

How often do you hear that said? our society seems to focus increasingly on youth and youthful appearances. On my social media accounts I am bombarded with adverts for exercise routines for old men to enable me to get a set of abdominal muscles that would do credit to a 20 year old. Why? the rest of my body is aging as it should, my skin is getting thinner, getting age spots and sagging in all the right places so I just let things be consistent.

So how does this fit in with my title? Well, I am embarking on a new venture. At the age of 75 I have decided to start a YouTube channel. I’ve always enjoyed sharing which is why I started this blog and this is another way of sharing my life, circumstances and point of view with an even wider audience. I have no real ambition to be a success or become an “Influencer” and I do not intend to use it to supplement my income. It may be completely ignored and even vilified but if my ideas prompt even one viewer to look deeply into their life and find some level of contentment as I have, then the effort will have been worth while.

Effort has been required, I have had to learn to film myself and be comfortable in front of the camera and how I appear. Still photography is simple, you choose the best shots but a video is very revealing and you see yourself as you really are, in my case old and wrinkly and my movements are those of an old man. It’s been necessary to order my thoughts so that I can script my comments at least in my head. There has been the need to come to grips with the technology of modern cameras, aren’t they fantastic, as well as developing my skills with the editing software. (CapCut is so easy) The last few months have been a wonderful learning curve for this old fella.

I’ve now produced three videos and a couple of shorts you will find the vlog on YouTube under the title:

Druid’s life in the Highlands or click on this link.

Thank you so much for your YouTube programmes. I am sorry that I cannot leave a comment in the comment box as the app won’t let me log in (apologies for my Luddite leanings). I have enjoyed watching immensely. As an Australian I am wondering how festivals convert into the southern hemisphere. Is there any information you could easily advise on? Keep filming, you are a natural! Stephen.

    1. Thank you Steve for your supportive comments. If you look at other of my YouTube videos you will see that I am a member of the Order of Bards Ovates and Druids and there is a very active Druid membership in Australia. They go under the name of SOBOD. You asked about the when of the year. If you refer back to my video you will see the section where I put up a visual representation of the wheel and if you refer to Samhain you will see that directly opposite is Beltain. So this is the way it works for the SBOD membership. When it is winter solstice here in the UK it is the summer solstice in your country. It translates quite well which is why OBOD is an international order. I hope that helps. My next YouTube video will be about Samhain.

  2. Greetings! I recently stumbled into your YouTube channel and everything you shared really resonated with me. Before I had no idea that OBOD existed, but because of your videos I recently bought the introductory pack. You started uploading videos at a time where I began questioning and exploring my own spirituality, so it seems like a sign 🙂

I am definitely one of those viewers who you have prompted to look deeply into my own life. I thank you for that and wish you the best of luck with the future of the channel and in your endeavours 🙂

  3. I’ve appreciated your open and honest videos on YouTube, and now I’m happy to find more about you here! After some research, including your videos, I started my journey with OBOD just this weekend. It seems to align with the natural flow for my spiritual path, coming along at just the right time. Druidry seems to be the next “teacher” for me in the old bit from the Tao Te Ching, “when the student is ready…”

You’ve also given me the inspiration to make my writing and journaling a little more public…perhaps it’s the bard wanting to come out in me. Looking forward to more videos from you soon!
